We conducted a recent outdoor lighting design consultation at a customer’s vacation home at Lake Martin, south of Birmingham. The project consisted of a fairly customary landscape lighting and architectural lighting design.
Then the customer presented a challenge. He indicated that he wanted a solution for providing illumination for safe passage on the pier. Since there was no handrail, downlighting was not an option. We discussed surface mount fixtures, but he had no interest in this option. I then suggested some integrated, flush mounted fixtures. Problem solved!
The fixtures were selected from a line of products offered by in-lite. In-lite is a leading designer, developer, and manufacturer of high quality, low voltage landscape lighting specializing in trend setting solutions. The selected fixture was a 60mm diameter round fixture. It has an impact resistant housing, it is UV resistant, and it is water-resistant. The fixtures have a 2 watt LED light source (cool white and warm white) that is warranted for 5 years. These LED fixtures were easily integrated into the customer’s traditional low voltage outdoor lighting system.
Challenge #2 Once we finalized the design for illuminating the stationary pier, the customer noted that he wanted his floating pier to have the same type illumination. Not a problem, since the fixtures are 100% water-resistant. We did have to design a device to accommodate the ever-changing elevation of the floating pier as it relates to the wiring scheme.

This looks awesome. Very impressive way to effectively light a pier.
